Recently certified by the Gluten-Free Food Service (GFFS) Certification Organization, Mediterranea is Atlanta’s first gluten-free full-service restaurant and bakery. Located in a historic streetcar stop from the early 1900s, Mediterranea features a beautiful rooftop patio overlooking Grant Park and showcases locally-sourced ingredients in its brunch, lunch, and dinner offerings.
Residents of Atlanta’s Ormewood Park, Co-Owners Gerard Nudo and Gary McElroy have both led a gluten-free lifestyle for more than 14 years. At Mediterranea, they have created a dedicated, gluten-free restaurant designed to offer variety for vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, and more.
Gerard was born in Italy, just miles from the Mediterranean Sea, and he also serves as Pastry Chef at Mediterranea. He grew up in Astoria, New York, and worked on a sheep farm in Ireland before joining the team at renowned Manhattan bookstore and publishing company Rizzoli. Gerard was also a consulting cookbook buyer for Eataly, Lidia Bastianich’s food emporium, and a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education’s Pastry & Baking Arts program.
Born in Iowa and raised in Texas, Gary also formerly worked at Rizzoli in New York and Chicago, as a store manager and music buyer in the corporate offices. He is a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education’s Restaurant Management program.
